Travel Trailer Tire Maintaineance

Travel trailer tire maintenance is crucial for ensuring safe and trouble-free travels. Proper tire maintenance can also prolong the life of your trailer tires, saving you money in the long run.

Here are some tips for travel trailer tire maintenance:

  1. Check tire pressure regularly: Under-inflated tires can cause increased wear and tear, decreased fuel economy, and even blowouts. Check the tire pressure at least once a month, and before each trip. Use a tire pressure gauge to ensure the tires are inflated to the manufacturer's recommended pressure.

  2. Inspect tires for wear and damage: Look for cracks, punctures, or signs of uneven wear. Check the tire tread depth regularly, and replace tires if the tread is worn down to 2/32 of an inch or less.

  3. Rotate tires regularly: Rotate the tires every 5,000 to 7,000 miles or at least once a year. This helps ensure even wear and prolongs the life of the tires.

  4. Keep tires covered when not in use: When the trailer is parked, use tire covers to protect the tires from UV rays, which can cause premature aging and cracking.

  5. Replace tires regularly: Trailer tires have a lifespan of around five to seven years, even if they look like they have plenty of tread left. Replace your tires before they reach their expiration date, even if they haven't been driven much.

By following these tips, you can help ensure the safety and longevity of your travel trailer tires. Remember, proper tire maintenance is an essential part of trailer ownership, so don't neglect it.
