Wiring
4 Way Flat Trailer Plug
Many standard light-duty trailers, such as boats, and utility trailers, use a 4-way wiring harness to connect to the tow vehicle. This connection provides the required running lights, turn signals, and brake lights for the trailer. There is also an additional pin provided for a ground wire.
7-Way Trailer Plug
Most common wiring harness found on trailers. Use a 7-way wiring harness to connect to the tow vehicle. This connection provides the required running lights, turn signals, brake lights and ground for the trailer. In addition, they provide three additional pins for a 12V hot lead (meaning as you are going down the road your vehicle will charge the battery on your trailer), electric brakes (still requires a brake controller in order to activate the trailer brakes,) and reverse lights.
Reciever (Hitch)
